A chip is a small break in the outer layer of your windshield. Every pothole, car wash and cold snap works on it, and Calgary is hard on chips: a warm chinook afternoon followed by a freezing night is often all it takes to send one running across the glass.
Once a chip turns into a crack, it can't be filled, and a new windshield usually costs $300 to $800. Filling the chip takes about half an hour and costs $29.99.

- A round break with a cone-shaped crater in the middle.

- A single short crack running out from the chip.

- Like a bullseye, but only part of the circle.

- Two cracks spreading out at an angle, like wings.

Clean it out
Moisture and road grit come out of the break first, so the resin can bond to the glass.

Fill it with resin
Resin goes in under pressure and runs into every leg of the chip.

Cure it with UV light
UV light hardens the resin in minutes, sealing the break for good.

Polish and go
We scrape the surface flush and polish it, and you're back on the road.

Can every rock chip be repaired?
Most can. A chip can usually be filled if it's smaller than a loonie, isn't right in the driver's line of sight, and isn't at the very edge of the windshield. If it's bigger, has cracks longer than a few inches, or has gone through more than the outer layer of glass, a new windshield is the safer fix and we'll tell you so.
How much does rock chip repair cost?
$29.99 a chip, for any type of chip. Many insurance policies cover chip repair too, often with no deductible.
How long does it take?
Under 30 minutes from start to finish, so most people wait at the shop while we do it.
Do I need to book?

Will I still see the chip afterwards?
The repair stops the chip spreading and restores the strength of the glass. Most chips become hard to spot, but you may still see a small mark if you look closely.
How long does a repair last?
Once the resin is cured it is permanent, and should last as long as the windshield does. Every repair is covered by our 1-year workmanship guarantee.
Can I use a DIY repair kit instead?
We wouldn't. Store kits don't have the pressure or the curing light to fill a chip properly, and a bad fill can leave a cloudy patch or let the chip keep spreading. Once a chip has been filled badly, it can't be redone, so it often ends up as a new windshield.
